Privacy Policy
Effective October 22, 2026
In short:
- Your car's battery data stays on your phone. It is never sent to us.
- Our server stores only feedback you choose to send, an anonymous id for your installation of the app, and the store's confirmation of NineWatt Pro subscriptions.
- No account, no advertising, no analytics or tracking, and we never sell or share data for advertising.
This policy covers the NineWatt app for iPhone and Android and this website. NineWatt is made by Frank Gadot ("we", "us").
On your phone
NineWatt talks to your OBDLink adapter over Bluetooth and reads the battery data your car reports: state of charge, voltages, currents, temperatures, cell voltages, health figures, the odometer and similar values. It keeps these readings, your history, charging sessions and drives, session logs and your settings on your phone only. We never receive them.
If you export a session log or your history (for example as a CSV file), it goes only where you choose to send it. Deleting the app deletes its data from the phone (on iPhone, the install id described below can stay in the Keychain). Your phone's own backups (iCloud, Google) may include the app's data, under Apple's or Google's terms.
Bluetooth is used only to connect to your OBD adapter. NineWatt does not use your location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
What our server stores
The app contacts our server for three things: the feedback board, NineWatt Pro, and checking that the server is reachable. The server stores:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| An anonymous install id: a random number the app makes the first time it runs. It isn't your name, your phone's hardware id or an advertising id. It's kept in the phone's secure storage (the Keychain on iPhone, where it can outlast deleting and reinstalling the app). | To show which requests are yours, to limit each installation to five submissions a day, and to know which installation a Pro subscription unlocks. |
| Feedback you send: the kind (feature request or bug report), title and description you write, and when you sent it. A bug report can also include, if you leave that option on, your phone's operating system version and your adapter's model and firmware version. | To show it on the feedback board, where every NineWatt user can read it. The board never shows who wrote a request or who voted for it. |
| Votes: which subscription voted for which request, how many votes it has left, and when its next monthly vote is due. | To count votes and give them back when a request is closed. |
| Subscription records: when you buy or restore NineWatt Pro, the app sends the store's transaction id (App Store) or purchase token (Google Play). Our server asks Apple or Google to confirm it and keeps the subscription's original transaction id or purchase token, the product, its platform, until when it's active, and which install ids it unlocks. | To unlock Pro on your devices and to let subscribers vote. |
Please don't put personal information such as your name, email address or license plate in feedback: everyone using NineWatt can read it.
We never receive your name, email address, Apple ID, Google account, payment details or your car's VIN. Payments are handled entirely by Apple or Google under their privacy policies.
What we don't keep
- Your phone's internet (IP) address is seen by our server, as by any server you connect to. It is used only in memory, for a few minutes, to stop anyone from flooding the server with requests. It isn't written to a log or the database.
- There are no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools in the app or on this website, and this website sets no cookies.
Who else is involved
- Apple and Google confirm NineWatt Pro purchases when our server asks about a transaction id or purchase token.
- Vercel hosts this website. Like any web host, it handles your IP address to deliver the pages and may keep it briefly in its logs; it may not use it for anything else.
- DigitalOcean hosts the server the app talks to, in the United States. It stores data for us and may not use it for anything else.
We don't sell personal data, share it for advertising, or give it to anyone else unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Feedback stays on the board, closed or open, until we remove it or you ask us to.
- Subscription records are kept while the subscription is active and for 12 months after it ends, so a renewal finds its votes again.
- Nightly backups of the server's database are kept for 14 days.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete what we hold about your installation, for example to remove the text of a request you wrote. Write to support@ninewatt.app and tell us the title of the request or, for subscription records, the platform you bought on. Because we don't know who you are, we may ask for something that shows the data is yours. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California) you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.
Children
NineWatt is meant for car owners and isn't directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date, and tell you in the app when the change matters.
