Terms of Use
Effective October 22, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Frank Gadot ("we", "us"), the developer of NineWatt, for the NineWatt app and its services, including the feedback board and the NineWatt Pro subscription. By downloading or using NineWatt you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
In short: NineWatt shows what your car's battery system reports, for your information. It is not a diagnostic, troubleshooting or repair tool, it can't tell you whether a battery or car is safe, and you must never use it while driving. If anything seems wrong with your car, contact Hyundai or a qualified technician.
1. Intended use
NineWatt is intended for one thing: letting the owner or authorized driver of a Hyundai IONIQ 9 view information that the vehicle's battery management system reports, for personal interest. It reads that information through an OBD-II adapter and decodes it using publicly shared community research, not data or documentation from Hyundai.
You agree not to use NineWatt, or anything it shows:
- to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair or monitor a battery, vehicle or charger that is faulty, damaged, recalled, flooded, in a collision or showing a warning;
- to decide whether a vehicle or its battery is safe to drive, charge, store or work on;
- as a battery health report or certificate, or to describe a vehicle's condition, to anyone else, including when buying, selling, leasing, insuring, valuing or financing a vehicle, or in a warranty, insurance or legal claim;
- for commercial services such as inspections, repairs, fleet management or paid reports, unless we agree in writing;
- on a vehicle you don't own or aren't authorized to use;
- in any way that breaks the law or the instructions of the vehicle's or adapter's maker.
Values NineWatt shows may be incomplete, delayed, estimated or wrong, especially after vehicle software updates or on vehicles other than the IONIQ 9. Health checks, ratings and estimates (such as state of health, usable capacity or cell balance) are approximations, not findings.
2. If something seems wrong
If your vehicle shows a warning light or message, or you notice smoke, an unusual smell, heat, noise or fluid, or the vehicle has been in a collision or flood, follow Hyundai's instructions in your owner's manual, stop charging and driving if they say so, and contact Hyundai, a qualified technician or emergency services. Don't rely on NineWatt to tell you that everything is fine, and don't delay getting help because of anything it shows. Never open or touch high-voltage components.
3. Using it safely
- Never use or look at the app while driving. Set things up while parked, and follow the law where you are.
- Mount the adapter so it doesn't interfere with the pedals or your legs, and follow OBD Solutions' instructions for it.
- NineWatt only sends read requests to the vehicle and doesn't change its settings. Any device plugged into the OBD-II port can still draw power from the 12 V battery or, rarely, interact unexpectedly with vehicle systems. We make no statement about how using an OBD-II adapter or NineWatt affects your vehicle's warranty.
- You use the adapter and the app at your own risk, and you are responsible for how you use what NineWatt shows.
4. Who can use it
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) and able to enter into this agreement.
5. Not affiliated
NineWatt is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Motor America or OBD Solutions LLC. Hyundai and IONIQ are trademarks of Hyundai Motor Company; OBDLink is a trademark of OBD Solutions LLC. Other names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to describe compatibility.
6. NineWatt Pro subscription
NineWatt is free to use. NineWatt Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks history and analytics and lets you vote on feature requests.
- Length and price: one year, $9.99 (US) per year or the price shown in your store for your country, including any applicable taxes.
- Payment: charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase.
- Automatic renewal: the subscription renews automatically for another year at the then-current price unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Managing and cancelling: on iPhone, in Settings → your name → Subscriptions (or the App Store account settings); on Android, in Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Free trials and offers: if a free trial or introductory price is offered, it is described in the store before you buy. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Refunds: purchases are processed by Apple or Google, who handle refund requests under their own policies (Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com; Google Play: your order history). We can't issue refunds for store purchases ourselves. Except where the law or the store's policy says otherwise, there are no refunds for partial periods.
- Price changes are announced by the store as its rules require, and you can cancel before they apply.
- To unlock Pro our server checks your purchase with Apple or Google; see the Privacy Policy.
7. Feedback and votes
- Feature requests and bug reports you send are shown to all NineWatt users, without your name. Don't include personal or confidential information, and don't post anything unlawful, abusive or misleading. We may edit, merge, close or remove any request.
- By sending feedback, you allow us to use it freely, for example to build a feature you suggested, without owing you anything.
- Votes are a way to tell us what matters to you. They have no monetary value, can't be bought, sold or transferred, and don't oblige us to build anything.
8. Apps from the App Store
If you got NineWatt from Apple's App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA") applies to your licence to use the app, together with these terms. Where they conflict about the licence, the Standard EULA prevails. As the Standard EULA says, the licence is between you and us, not Apple; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for claims relating to it; and Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries who may enforce the licence terms against you. If you got NineWatt from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply to your purchase.
9. Licence and acceptable use
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use NineWatt on devices you own or control, for the intended use in section 1. Don't reverse engineer it except as the law allows, interfere with our server, try to get Pro without paying, or use automated means to submit feedback or votes.
10. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, NineWatt and its services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that anything NineWatt shows is correct or complete, or that the app or server will be uninterrupted, error-free or available forever.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, money, value or use, or any damage to your vehicle, battery, charger, adapter or phone, arising from or related to NineWatt or anything it shows, even if we were told such damage was possible. Our total liability for all claims together is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for NineWatt Pro in the twelve months before the claim, or US$10.
Some places don't allow these exclusions or limits, so they apply to you only as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived, or liability that can't be limited by law.
12. Your responsibility to us
To the extent the law allows, you agree to defend and compensate us for claims, losses and reasonable costs (including legal fees) brought by anyone else that arise from your use of NineWatt in breach of these terms, for example using it outside its intended use in section 1 or presenting what it shows to a buyer, insurer or other third party.
13. Ending
You can stop using NineWatt at any time. We may suspend access to the feedback board for anyone who misuses it. If we stop offering NineWatt Pro, we'll stop renewals and keep it working for the period you've paid for, or the store will refund you as its rules provide.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date and tell you in the app when a change matters. Continuing to use NineWatt after that means you accept the new terms.
15. Disputes and governing law
- Talk to us first. Before bringing any claim, write to support@ninewatt.app and give us 30 days to try to resolve it.
- Governing law: these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where the law of your country of residence gives you protections that can't be changed by agreement.
- Where: any dispute that isn't resolved informally will be heard only in the state or federal courts located in Florida, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in a small claims court where it qualifies.
- Time limit: to the extent the law allows, any claim must be brought within one year after it arose, or it is permanently barred.
- If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
